A mixed-methods framing analysis of Belarusian and Ukrainian protests

The following study analysed online articles in German media discussing protests Ukraine 2014 and Belarussian 2020. A mixed-methods approach of combining qualitative quantitative content analyses was used to examine frames frame sources utilised the articles. There were 489 for analysis. also examined statistically significant differences between frequency by country. indicated each story coded as a variable (“human impact”, “powerlessness”, “moral values”, “conflict”). human impact more common regarding Belarus than Ukraine. moral values least both Belarus. powerlessness most prominent countries. difference two countries conflict utilisation. statistical analysis shows that there is covered media. was: 67,49% (Ukraine) 76,74% (Belarus); frame: 2,48% 6,59% 24,46% 5,57% 10,08% (Belarus). Finally, indicated. Sources international officials local (in Belarus). citizens Belarus) oppositional politicians (Belarus only).
